Curriculum

You will find details about the learning curriculum below - - do look at the class pages and speak to your child's teacher for more information.

The Jordans School curriculum is carefully planned to be full of rich and varied learning experiences giving opportunities for discovery within topics that the children find fascinating and highly motivating. It is both inspirational and aspirational, making the most of our rural environment and enhancing outdoor spaces.   The teachers' in-depth knowledge of the learning curriculum allows them to tailor the lessons to the children's individual needs, so all can progress forwards in their learning.  We take a mastery approach to all subjects, encouraging the children to go wide in their learning and revisit areas in discussions and assemblies to ensure there is long-term retention and a secure understanding.

We place great emphasis on our children being equipped with the skills to learn, we do this through a Growth Mindset and metacognition approach.  The iceberg analogy shows the underlying skills of Growth Mindset that we coach in school- we refer to it as “growing our brains”.  Each day we grow our brains and learn from our mistakes, our experiences, from each other and rise to challenges. Throughout our curriculum the skills of oracy, reading, writing and maths are embedded.

As a school, we agree that children will learn…

  • By being immersed in their new learning
  • Talking about their learning
  • By posing and answering their own questions
  • In mixed groups not defined by attainment
  • By having adults who can both scaffold new learning and also offer an additional challenge when required
  • In meaningful contexts that make sense, building upon their own experiences
  • Through practical, hands-on activities where appropriate for discovery and independence
  • By relating knowledge to building life skills
  • By revisiting knowledge to embed it, through discussions, applying skills in different ways and sharing ideas.
