What a fun week we have had immersing ourselves in all things pirate! The children had a great time being pirates on Pirate Day. They especially loved our Pirate Treasure Hunt in the Bluebell Woods! Our book of the week 'Molly Rogers, Pirate Girl' introduced the idea of a message in a bottle whereby the children have all had a go writing a message in a bottle to ask for help in our Literacy. This week in Maths, the children have been comparing lengths and using mathematical language such as shorter and longer. In our Understanding the World sessions, we have been looking at the different jobs pirates might have had on board a pirate ship and exploring how magnets work.

The children have been consolidating their learning this week through the following activities:

- using soaked tea bags to stain and create treasure maps

- making treasure chests and filling them with treasure

- matching quantities of gold doubloons with the correct number on a treasure chest 

- used observational skills to go on a treasure hunt and work as a team to find the treasure

- developed their imagination skills in our Foxes Galleon role-play area and the pirates' small world tuff tray

- practised their aim and throwing skills in our pirate's tin-can alley

- cutting out the flags of the countries in the World Cup

- going on bug hunts and exploring the Bluebell Woods during Forest School
