This week on our topic of 'People Who Help Us', the children have been learning all about the role of lifeguards and coastguards. Our book of the week is 'Sami's Beach Rescue' and in Literacy the children have been writing 'Thank you' letters to the coastguards who helped rescue Sami in the book. In Maths, we have continued to consolidate our learning of number bonds to ten using 'take away'. In Understanding the World, we have been looking at the role of a lifeguard and how the coastguard helps us. We have also been exploring different ways to roll in our Gymnastics sessions and how to stretch safely.
The children have had lots of different activities this week to build on their understanding:
- Building lifeboats out of Lego and building blocks
- Exploring our Lifeboat Station role-play area
- Using the small world tuff tray
- Enhancing their fine motor skills to paint and make life belts and lifeguard puppets
- Refining gross motor skills by making lifeboats and obstacle courses in the construction area
- Writing sentences about what the children can see
