This week, our lovely Foxes have been learning about the book 'Dear Zoo'. We have been exploring the animals from the book and other zoo animals we might know of. For our word bank, we have been learning the words 'habitat', 'dessert', 'rainforest' and 'polar region'. In Literacy, we have been writing the list of animals from the story. In Maths, we have been exploring different ways to make the number ten. During our Pics and Tell this week, some children drew their favourite animal and even labelled it. Towards the end of the week, we celebrated World Book Day and had a lovely time reading, enjoying and exploring books with friends and discussing what characters we all dressed up in – a true celebration of all things books! In our Understanding the World sessions, we discussed different habitats that animals live in and the special features that allow the animals to adapt to their environment. The children also practised their balance and coordination skills this week in Gymnastics using balance beams and how to use them safely. In PSHE, we have been learning about how to care for animals.
What a busy week our Foxes have had!
During exploring time, we have been carrying out the following activities:
-Designing animal homes using coloured blocks and sticklebricks
-Re-enacting our favourite stories for World Book Day
-Learning about different animal habitats and thinking about where they might live
-Developing our fine motor skills in cutting and creating animal masks
-Weeding and planting garlic bulbs in our outdoor classroom.
