This week we will looking at alternative ways of spelling the /air/ phoneme- 'ear' as in bear and 'are' as in care

Please practise these words at home with your child:

Ideas for other activities:

If your child is confident with the spelling the words above, they could practise writing them in a sentence. Perhaps they could challenge themselves to write a sentence with all 3 ways of spelling /air/ in e.g The greedy bear didn't want to share the pear he won at the fair!
Ask your child to read the phoneme spotter story (see below), or you could read it to them, and highlight all the words which have the /air/ sound in. (They may spot that a few words have /air/ spelt 'ere' e.g there)
